Prior to World War II, the area surrounding Robins Air Force Base was sparsely populated and was known as Wellston. In 1942 an Army air depot was build adjacent to the town and the area was renamed Warner Robins shortly thereafter. Real estate in Robins Air Force Base GA grew quickly during this time. The tiny town thrived with all the work available during the war, but experienced a downturn after the conflict's end. with the Korean War and the intensification of the Cold War, the town again swelled as the base supplied many jobs to the surrounding area. On April 30th, 1953, a tornado touched down in Warner Robins in what was the most disastrous natural event in the area's history. The tornado killed eighteen people, injured 250 and destroyed 126 houses. The area has remained a military town dependent on the base for much of the citizen's employment, and at the 2010 census, there were 66,588 people living in Warner Robins, 25,000 of which are employed by the base in some capacity.

Attractions and Activities
